HISTORY/SPECIAL FEATURES

This car is an unrestored, nearly 60 year old original that has been in our family for 52 years.  My father, a plumber for over 44 years, purchased it in 1961 ($300.00 cash) from the original owner in Chicago who received it as a birthday present in January 1953 in Maryland.  This car was his daily therapy and relief away from his very physical job.  This car was a Sunday feature car in the Kansas City Star by Tom Strongman (Feb 19th, 2006).  Its first show appearance was in 1972, continuing on the circuit every year since then.  It has received approximately 75 place awards (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) in the states of Illinois (mostly Chicagoland region), Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. (Only 1953 Caddy original in KC region)

Major awards are: 2010 Cadillac-LaSalle Nationals 2nd (Touring Class); 3rd Pl.-Primary Division (Nationals)-1988; 3rd Pl.-West of the Lakes (AACA)-1994-Regionals; 2nd Pl. Non-restored Div. - World of Wheels-2008; Miscellaneous specialty awards; Best Chrome 2003-Baschor-Linwood Car show.  Member of the Cadillac-LaSalle Club of America; member of Cadillac Club of Kansas City; member of the Antique Automobile Club of America; Kansas City local AACA club member.

This 1953 Series 62 exemplifies a significant milestone for GM at the beginning of its second fifty years. Many significant changes occurred such as the first 12 volt system for a Caddy using the largest 12 volt battery ever made for a GM vehicle.  Many new electric power accessories were available such as power brakes, steering, and windows, backseat additional heating and of course this was the first year for factory Air-Conditioning, but not without some operational issues.

The 1953 Cadillac was tested by Motor-trend Magazine and was documented and proven to be the most powerful American made luxury car for 1953, beating out Packard, Lincoln and Chrysler. More details available upon request.  Call 816-678-6289 (cell) or email me.
